What we collect

When you submit text or a URL for analysis, we process it on our servers using local AI detection engines. We do not send your submitted content to any third-party services. All 23 engines run on our own server.

Data retention

Analysis reports are stored temporarily so they can be viewed and shared via their unique report URL. Reports are automatically deleted after 30 days. We do not keep copies of the original submitted text beyond what is shown in the report excerpt.

Your answers about who wrote a text

After an analysis, the report asks who actually wrote the text. If you answer, we keep your answer together with the numbers from that report: the overall score, the verdict, each engine's score, the word count and whether it was text or a URL. We do not keep the text, the URL or anything that identifies you with it, so these answers are kept after the report itself is deleted. We use them to check where the engines go wrong and to calibrate them.

Cookies & tracking

SlopTotal does not use cookies or fingerprinting. We do not run Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any equivalent, and no third-party JavaScript. We count visits with self-hosted, cookieless statistics (Umami on our own server): no cookies, no personal data, no third parties, and your IP address is not stored. Your browser makes two outside requests: the fonts come from Google Fonts, and the star count comes from GitHub's public API. Neither request carries your text. Your browser's local storage remembers your answer on each report and whether you starred the project on GitHub, so we do not ask twice; that stays on your device.

Chrome extension

The SlopTotal Chrome extension communicates only with the API server you configure (defaults to your own local instance). It does not transmit data to any other endpoint. The extension stores your preferences (toggle states, API URL) in local browser storage only.

Rate limiting

We apply rate limiting to prevent abuse. Your IP address may be processed for this purpose. The website and the analysis both run on our own server.
